Story

In 1983 there was no escaping this OHW by Scottish quartet Big Country, which was their only foray into the top 20 on the US charts. They toured with Queen and Roger Daltrey and were even on the Band Aid recording but never quite, as the lyric goes, fired the mountainside over here. Back home, they achieved cult status and their longevity lasted into the 90s, however, a year after their final tour in 2000, lead singer Stuart Adamson lost his battle against depression and alcoholism and it would be another 6 years before the surviving members regrouped to celebrate their 25 year anniversary. Perhaps Big Country's biggest fault was that they looked and sounded too different from other UK imports, sporting flannel shirts and disguising their guitars as bagpipes...or perhaps we fickle Americans were still recovering from disco. But you know what they say; you can't expect to grow flowers in a desert...
