Story

Who remembers "Don't Pay the Ferryman"? Well, I do...or more specifically the creepy video that accompanied it on MTV back in 1982 (granted, they were new back then and had slim pickings to choose from, hence why "I Want to Be A Lifeguard" by Blotto ever got airplay). While "Ferryman" served as Chris de Burgh's introduction to the US, it was his lilting ballad "The Lady In Red" that made him a household name in 1987. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts and has since become every DJ's slow song staple at proms and wedding receptions (which may be why it was voted the third worst song of the 1980s by readers of Rolling Stone). I suppose we should be grateful she didn't wear puce that night...
