Story

This week's OHW is a repost since it is Veteran's Day and it does bring home the message that "freedom isn't free"...

British musician Paul Hardcastle's resounding song "19". One of the first tracks to rely heavily on sampling from other sources, it contains the same anti-war sentiments that are prevalent in the iconic musical, and even echoes its irony in that he set his message about the atrocities of war to an infectious beat that turned it into a nightclub staple in the mid-80s. The song only reached #20 on the US charts, partly because some radio stations refused to play it, feeling that the song took an anti-American stance as well (Hardcastle had denied it and said he was even thanked by Vietnam vets for acknowledging them).

Thank you to all the men and women who sacrificed so much to uphold our freedoms, including the freedom to choose to play or to ban "19"...
