Kid Creole & The Coconuts

Story

Kid Creole (nee Thomas August Darnell Browder, or August Darnell, or just Kid) hailed from the Bronx and brought a cornucopia of musical influences to his style. According to Wikipedia, Kid Creole had intended to be "the larger-than-life central figure in a multi-racial, multi-cultural musical carnival" and yet he was barely heard, let alone charted, in the US (he was much bigger in the UK and was even honored with the BRIT Award for Best International Artist in 1983). In fact, Kid Creole and his interchangeable yet lovely Coconuts didn't make the US Hot 100 chart until he teamed up with Barry Manilow in 1987 for "Hey Mambo" on his Swing Street album (although that song peaked at an unimpressive #90). Guess Endicott wasn't the only one drifting around like a tumbleweed...
