Story

In 1982, I discovered Duran Duran like a gazillion other teenage girls. In 1983, I became a full-fledged Duranie and gobbled up every record they ever put out (I am still the proud owner of all their imported dance mixes on vinyl). In 1984, I finally saw my beloved Brits perform live at the now defunct Spectrum in Philly. Nick was my Duran of choice, however, I would have broke bread with any or all of them and considered myself one lucky girl. That's why, in 1985 when the band (gasp!) split up to pursue their "side projects" Arcadia and The Power Station, I was split as well. While Nick still had my heart, John had snagged a couple other vital organs, especially when he came out with this song in 1986 (from the erotic thriller 9 1/2 Weeks). It reached #23 on the US Billboard charts and while he did release a few other solo albums I decree this song merits him the title of being one-hit wonder.

In 1994, I rediscovered Duran courtesy of their stellar Wedding Album and have remained a fan ever since. Hence, in 2015 (this past Monday, actually) I saw them perform live once again in a much more intimate venue in NYC as they kicked off their Paper Gods tour. I may be more than slightly biased, but these guys still have that ephemeral "it" fourteen studio albums later...which begs the question; John, are you happy now?
