FAVOURITE SHIRTS

Money (That's What I Want)

Story

This week's OHW offering has been covered by such artists as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kingsmen, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Guy and, of course, The Flying Lizards.  Barrett Strong, who sang the original, claims he co-wrote it with Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford, but while he did pen some of the most successful and critically acclaimed soul songs ever to be released by Motown (including a little ditty called "I Heard it Through the Grapevine"), Gordy and Bradford said his name was added as a clerical error on the copyright. That's a bummer. Another bummer is that The Flying Lizards' version was their only hit and peaked at #50 on the US charts, however, it has since appeared in several films and TV series so one would presume it's still making them money. That is, after all, what they want...
